Canton Kayak Club Member Orientation Training

Sessions cannot be scheduled prior to submitting the CKC website form (with a completed application, signed waiver and paying the club membership fee)!

All new Canton Kayak Club members attend an orientation training session taught by an American Canoe Association-certified instructor prior to being granted access to use our kayaks and equipment. This allows all members to fully understand our safety expectations and club rules, as well as ask any questions.

Although orientation training is tailored to anybody new to kayaking, many experienced kayakers learn something new from this very informative session. Many have noted that this training alone is worth the price of club membership.
Our goal is to get each new member into the earliest available session to maximize the time available to paddle.

Scheduling & Attendance

Only 12 slots are available in each session to maintain a balanced student/instructor ratio. Each member *must* RSVP in advance for their session, “walk-ups” cannot be accepted and will be turned away. Failure to register will cause delays in gaining access to kayaks.

Orientation Training sessions are rain or shine! If you cannot make the session, please cancel your RSVP at least 24 hours prior to the start time of the session. Cancellations due to local weather conditions at the training location are rare. If you feel unsafe driving to the location, please let us know. If you do not have a car, let us know to see if we can help.

Attire

Members should come dressed ready to kayak (i.e. using layers of synthetics with a rain jacket.) as they will practice launching and paddling in a kayak. Advanced techniques, such as kayak rolls and rescue training, are NOT part of the orientation training.

Completion

After orientation training is completed and the club has opened for the season, members receive a membership card and a welcome email with the access codes to our kayaks and equipment. Members can then begin enjoying time on the water!
